TraducciónCall for Applications | Academic position specializing in Teaching Profesional Skills and Competencies Posted on 07/03/202507/03/2025 by sociologia The Institute of Sociology of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile invites applications for an Assistant Professor position with specialization in university teaching of professional skills and competencies, with a 0.75 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) contract, constituting 33 hours per week.The undergraduate program in sociology at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile began in 1959, and the Institute of Sociology (ISUC) was founded in 1971. At the undergraduate level, it offers a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, conferring a Sociology degree certificate. At the graduate level, it offers a doctoral program and a master’s program. Currently, ISUC has established itself as a reference point in the field. According to the QS 2023 rankings, ISUC is ranked 59th globally, fourth in Latin America, and first in Chile. Its numerous publications, research projects, international collaboration networks, and the successful professional integration of its graduates have positioned ISUC as an outstanding place for research and teaching in the social sciences.Through this call, we seek to incorporate a professor who will lead and enhance the professional training of our undergraduate students, taking into account the present and future challenges of the labor market, emerging social trends, and technological developments. The applicant must:Teach courses focused on the transmission of professional skills and competenciesStrengthen existing professional development and job placement initiatives at ISUC, such as thesis workshops and Service-Learning coursesCoordinate the undergraduate professional courses, including the management of workshops and professional internshipsCreate new professional training opportunities, for example, by developing new courses to anticipate the evolving needs of the Chilean labor marketMonitor and track labor market demands.Candidates will be evaluated based on their experience and excellence in teaching, including professionally oriented courses, supervision of internships, or thesis workshops in sociology or related social science fields. Experience in applied research, participation in bids and agreements with public and/or private entities, project formulation and implementation, among others, will also be valued. The selection process will additionally consider proactivity, leadership, teamwork skills in interdisciplinary settings, and prior collaborative work. All these qualifications will be assessed in relation to the candidate’s career stage.This is an open call for both Chilean and international applicants.
